MAC Gold\Silver Awards

Player of the Year: Briahn Smith, Madison

The best player on the best team; simple as that. No Member of the Eagles elevated their game in quite the way Smith did this year. Becoming on of the top two three scorers and rebounders in the MAC gold and leading Madison to another MAC gold title and a district title as well.  Finished 23-1 in league play at the varsity level.

 

Coach of the Year: Tom Valko, Marysville

Despite losing twice to rival St. Clair the Vikings emerged from their district containing rivals St. Clair and Marine City as well as divisional foe Mt. Clemens in grand fashion. The senior led Vikings have won 16 games including 8 of their last nine to carry them to the regional round.

 

Team of the Year: Madison Eagles

The Eagles have won the last two MAC Gold title and won one of Class B's toughest districts this season to advance to regional play. Returning most of their team from a year ago the Eagles wore a bullseye all season and were able to continue to plow through the competetion amassing a 19-1 regular season record.

ALL-Macomb Area Conference First Team

 

Zak VanLooy                         Marysville                             6’11”               Senior             Center

Had his best season as a Senior. Averaged 13 ppg 10.5 rpg and 4 bpg. Had 25 points & 18 rebounds in a win over Mt. Clemens.

 

Briahn Smith                         Madison                                 6’4”                 Senior             Forward

MAC Gold MVP; was the leading scorer and rebounder for 19-1 Madison. Had 27 points and 15 rebounds vs. Mt. Clemens.

 

 

Joe Jepsen                              St. Clair                                  6’0”                 Senior             Guard

Senior averaged 18.8 ppg for the Saints, tops in the MAC gold division. Had 34 points and 11 rebounds against New Haven.

 

 

Markell Harris                      Mt. Clemens                          5’10”               Junior             Guard

Led the Bathers in scoring at 14.4 ppg. Had 26 against Silver champ Center Line and 23 vs. Gold champ Madison.

 

Sal Hermiz                            Center Line                            5’11”               Senior             Guard

MAC Silver MVP; Led the silver in scoring at 17.2 ppg; led his team in assists and steals. Scored 28 in win over Detroit City.

 

ALL-Macomb Area Conference Second Team

 

C.J. Olanyian                         Warren Mott                          6’6”                 Sophomore     Center

Averaged 14 ppg & 12 rpg despite facing constant double teams. Also led the team in steals, assists and blocked shots.

 

James Bethea                         Clintondale                            6’4”                 Junior             Forward

Leading scorer for the Dragons at 13.4. Had season high 22 points in late season win over Center Line to split the title.

 

Earl Robinson                        Warren Lincoln                     6’3”                 Senior             Forward

Senior averaged 12 ppg and 8 rpg and helped Lincoln finish the regular season rolling. Had 23 points 12 rebounds vs. WWT

 

Joe Jones                                Marysville                             6’0”                 Senior             Forward

The Vikings top scorer (14 ppg) and one of the MAC’s most dangerous deep threats.  Made 58 triples this year; 8 vs. Lamphere.

 

Deandre Johnson                  Madison                                 5’9”                 Senior             Guard

Floor leader for back-to-back MAC Gold champs; Averaged 7.5 ppg 5 apg and 4 spg. 13 points 9 assists in win vs. East Detroit

 

ALL-Macomb Area Conference Third Team

 

Jon Essenmacher                   Center Line                            6’5”                 Junior             Forward         

Second leading scorer and rebounder for the MAC silver co-champs. Averaged 11.7 ppg; had 21 in win over WWT.

 

Anthony Williams                Warren Lincoln                     6’2”                 Junior Forward

Long range threat averaged 12.8 ppg and made over 30 triples. Finished the year with 8 straight games in double figures.

 

Brendan Adams                    Clintondale                            6’2”                 Senior             Guard

A major factor in the Dragons late season charge. Averaged 12 ppg & 5 rpg. Had 19 points against WWT and Lamphere.

 

Steve Faucher                       Marine City                           5’10”               Senior             Guard

Averaged 15.3 ppg for the Mariners; scored in double digits in 18 of 20 games. Had season best 29 points vs. Center Line

 

John Acuff                             Warren Lincoln                     6’0”                 Senior             Guard

Talented playmaker averaged 10.6 ppg and over 4 apg for 15 win Abes. Scored 21 points in win over Fitzgerald.

 

ALL-Macomb Area Conference Fourth Team

 

Mario Graham                      Madison                                 6’2”                 Senior             Forward

A nice interior compliment to Smith. Averaged 8 points per game; had 14 points 11 rebounds and 8 blocks vs. Marysville.

 

Kyle Vangheluwe                 Lake Shore                             6’3”                 Senior             Forward

Three year starter averaged 11.5 ppg 8 rpg and 5 apg as catalyst for 3rd place Shorians. Scored 37 points vs. WWT.

 

Cameron Adams                   Clintondale                            6’2”                 Senior             Forward

Brought perimeter shooting, athleticism and defensive toughness to the Dragons. Third on the team with 10.6 ppg.

 

Matt Duggan                         Warren Woods-Tower          6’0”                 Senior             Guard

Emerged midway through the season as Titans go-to-guy. Had 26 points vs. Warren Mott; averaged 12.1 ppg overall. 

 

Damion King                         Madison                                 5’11”               Senior             Guard

Two year starter, honorable mention as a junior; averaged 7.6 ppg third on the Eagles. Had 16 points in win over Mt. Clemens

 

Brandon Paschall                  Center Line                            5’10”               Senior             Guard

3 year varsity player, a leader on the floor; played both guard spots for MAC silver champs; averaged 11 ppg 3apg and 3 spg.
